Why walk?

The Benefits of Walking

Why go to the gymnasium?
To get that flab off your tum?
Why not go for a walk instead?

No, I'm not being funny,
But why pay all that money?
For an expensive gym membership fee?

With best intent people pay up,
Then they don't show up,
And forget the exercise that's free.

About keeping fit they just talk,
And never go for a walk.
Drive everywhere in their car.

Far better to stroll in the country,
Which is almost totally free,
And to benefit don't have to go far.

It's a very sociable activity,
Join a walking group for good company,
Then talk as you walk, take in the views.

For it's a well known scientific fact,
Walking improves stamina and energy,
Weight control, confidence and life expectancy.
All of which has got to be good news.

Also reduces heart disease, strokes, diabetes,
Osteoporosis, stress and arthritis,
Not to mention,
High blood pressure, Alzheimers,
Anxiety and bowel cancer too.

So,
Don't fork out on that treadmill in the gym,
Walkout in fresh air to keep healthy and slim.
For it costs hardly a penny,
And there'll be major benefits for you.

The BDTA (Billinghay and District Twinning Association)

The trip to France is approaching fast and if you fancy finding out about the association, why not come and join the coachload to Ballon?
The coach will be leaving on the 23rd May returning on the wednesday 28th. Cost is £100/adult and £50/child. Board and lodging is provided by your host family who will be assigned to you.
You DO NOT need to speak French, activities are planned for all the days, so you will be with other English speakers most of the time...
If you have felt nervous about going abroad before, go on give it try, with this door to door approach.
The twinning has been going on since 1986, so the people of Ballon are well used to the folk from our whereabouts!!!
Get to know a French family, relish in the Fench culture albeit with familiar faces alongside you.
You don't have to live in Billinghay either! Membership is open to anyone within the Car Dyke group of parishes and beyond. We have members from Sleaford and Washingborough as well as more local Billinghers and North and South Kymers.
Follow the link by clicking on the title to find out more about the association, but if you have any questions or would like to enquire further, you can contact the secretary by email at: secretary@billinghaytwinning.eu.com
There will be a BDTA meeting at the Billinghay community rooms on Friday 22nd February at 7.30pm so come along, ask a few questions, listen to others' experiences and join in the fun.
