There will be a public meeting at the Lafford High School on Thursday 3rd April at 6.00pm as part of the consultation regarding the proposed closure of the secondary school in the village. All residents are invited as this proposed closure will have a social, economic and environmental impact on this village community. This is part of the official and legal process which all school closures have to follow. If you do not attend, you will not have a say in deciding what the future of education in Billinghay will look like.

The trip to France is approaching fast and if you fancy finding out about the association, why not come and join the coachload to Ballon?
The coach will be leaving on the 23rd May returning on the wednesday 28th. Cost is £100/adult and £50/child. Board and lodging is provided by your host family who will be assigned to you.
You DO NOT need to speak French, activities are planned for all the days, so you will be with other English speakers most of the time...
If you have felt nervous about going abroad before, go on give it try, with this door to door approach.
The twinning has been going on since 1986, so the people of Ballon are well used to the folk from our whereabouts!!!
Get to know a French family, relish in the Fench culture albeit with familiar faces alongside you.
You don't have to live in Billinghay either! Membership is open to anyone within the Car Dyke group of parishes and beyond. We have members from Sleaford and Washingborough as well as more local Billinghers and North and South Kymers.

Watching a short DVD from fresh expressions initiated discussion on the needs in the village and how can we break down the preconceptions of those fearful of commiting themselves to a church community? The Church is more than any four walls, more than any specific denomination... it is the people living their faith openly, enthusing others by their passion for Christ.... but how can we find new, fresh ways of of bringing a community together and in turn show them the unconditional love God has for us all...

Almost all my pics were blurred today! Here's one just to get a feel for things.

What a wonderful time we had with so many people! Rose and her three joined us, as well as all of Tom's siblings. It was great to see so many dads out with their little ones - 14 children in all plus their adults. Charles was the sole representative from the Smiths, continuing the long tradition of every walk including one of their family. Hope Penny's shoot went well. The woods were perfect for running around in and the children made the most of the absolutely gorgeous bright sunny day. (Only blight was the horrid amounts of slippy dog poo. Yuck!)

Perhaps we can have some good pics from John and Mark, pretty please ;-))) Get well soon Bronwen and Janneke, we missed you today. Hope you made the best of the quiteness....

Sunny walk and Montague's Harrier news

Eight of us had a lovely hour-long walk around the village, partly by the fields and partly on the road. Several others joined us for a BBQ and buffet afterwards, making it a total of 15. It was lovely to celebrate five happy years in the village.

We can also give you news that a rare pair of Montagu's Harriers have chosen Digby Fen to nest. They are migrating birds and Britain's rarest raptors. Do pop along.

Fourteen walkers (wheelchair/buggies too) including seven children enjoyed the May walk around Ostler's Plantation. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. We had some funny moments when we were inadvertantly 'caught up' in the area cordoned off for an archery contest. We did not realise until someone spoke to us, concerned that we might disturb the animals they had carefully laid out. No one got shot and we had a laugh about it! The bouncing tree is still in place!

June 23rd will be a local Billinghay walk followed by a social. Do join us from 4pm. All are welcome back to our afterwards.

This is one of the most useful things I have seen in a long time. One of the creators was interviewed on BBC Radio Lincolnshire this week and clearly has a vision for communities to be enjoyed. Fits in perfectly with our philosophy here at billinghay connect:

Biggest family walk yet!

Wow, what an amazing time we had yesterday afternoon. Thanks to Bronwen for finding new people to share Ostler's Plantation with.

We had 29 people in total (including 18 children from babies to around 11 years of age) who travelled there in 8 cars.

We are so grateful, and it was such fun! We found an amazing 'bouncing tree' where the children bounced and bounced for ages, some fell off though most stayed on. Thanks everyone! Penny and Charles - you have been on every walk so far!

May 19th @ 4.00pm is the next one. We had thought about considering another venue, but after yesterday, I would love to go back. What do you think? One more at Ostler's..... comments please....

To Ostler's Plantation - between Woodhall Spa and Kirkby on Bain
Directions: In the parish of Kirkby-on-Bain, the plantation lies behind the LWT’s Kirkby Moor Reserve on Moor Lane which runs from Kirkby-on-Bain to Woodhall Spa.

All are welcome to join in another fun family walk this weekend. Please let others know as well. We will meet at the Mosaic Corner (Fitzwilliam Place) and High Street Corner at 2.00pm on Saturday 20th January 2007. If the weather is REALLY REALLY bad we may have to cancel. Please come well prepared for the cold weather.

Thanks, Bronwen, for this beautiful reminder of what the walk was like!

We've had our third Billinghay Fun Family Walk and they really have been enjoyable. The November Walk had eight children accompanied by their adults. We're considering a December Walk but haven't decided as yet. Ostler's Plantation was fab! The children found places to hide, fallen trees to move and plenty of opportunities to just run free. There are still lots of routes to discover at OP so it would be fun to go again, unless we find another great walk for everyone.

Next Fun Family Walk

Saturday November 4th at 14.00 meet at the Mosaic Corner and travel in convoy. We'll take a different route around Ostler's Plantation. As the nights are drawing in, we will be starting a bit earlier. Sunset is at about 16.30 so we should have enough time for a fun time together before it gets too dark.Same details - ie. stilletos not recommended!
